FIRING
Only our staff /unload the kiln. Kiln is in a separate facility at this time Hebee Pottery does not guarantee a specific firing schedule, however, every effort will be made to get your pieces fired in a timely manner. Student’s work takes priority. Currently, we have an approximate 2 week turn-around time, which may vary.
Studio Artist are responsible for placing greenware on the bisque shelf. Pieces placed on shelf will be considered dry and ready to fire. It is at the firing techs discretion to determine if a piece is fully dry and ready to be fired. Kiln technicians will make every effort to get pieces into the kiln as soon as possible. A selection of work from all Studio Artist will be loaded to allow for equal distribution of kiln space and pieces. The studio cannot accommodate rush pieces, so plan accordingly for drying times and firing. We do not candle pieces in the kiln to speed drying times.
NOTE: We make every effort to ensure that pieces are handled with care. Accidents do happen, and we can’t be held accountable. It’s the nature of the media.
GLAZING RULES
No glaze on the bottom of the piece.
1/8” glaze margin (vertical height from countertop) on every piece. Pieces that fail to meet this rule will be placed on a glaze correction shelf. These pieces will not be fired until the glazing is corrected.
Pots must be 100% dry before a second coat of glaze can be applied. Cross contamination of the glazes is detrimental to our glaze results and affects all individuals working in the studio. Glaze contamination will result in the member paying for a new bucket of glaze. Proper glazing procedures will be thoroughly explained during Studio Artist glaze orientation.
Outside glazes and underglazes should be tested and be approved by our studio manager prior to use.
Willful disregard of the glazing rules that result in damage to the kiln or shelves will incur a penalization of $25 per hour fee for the repairs to the kiln or shelves. Test and use a cookie if you are unsure!
